Shot At and Killed!

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

And it was those four charming words, courtesy of the U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Mexico under the heading of “Warden Message-Security Issues” dated May 19th, 2010, that leads me to believe that some high-powered attorney in Peñasco (or anywhere in Mexico) who can practice on both sides of the border needs to take immediate legal action!

And while they are at it they also need to file some sort of legal action against the Arizona Highway Patrol Association, specifically one Sergeant Bill Rogers for his recent inflammatory statements about ‘Rocky Point’ in a front page interview with www.kyma.com on (or about) May 25, 2010.

In that interview, the writer for the KYMA 11 News Team begins with “Mexico Travel Warning” followed by: “But the high rate of crime and violence has prompted warnings from federal and state agencies” and then the good old Sarge weighs in, specifically about drinking in Rocky Point, stating that: “There are people down there that will see that (drinking), and they will victimize you, and they can put a hurt on you that you never had before and never want again...”

Rogers also warns that: “We've noticed an increase in the drug-trafficking and also the gang infighting down there.” (emphasis mine) Of course, no such problems exist anywhere in Arizona (or the rest of the US for that matter).

As has also been reported, local Rocky Point business and community leaders held meetings voicing their outrage and coordinating a push-back, and those efforts have borne some fruit. But if they want real action (and a lot of Free Publicity) there is nothing like filing a big fat juicy ‘legal-action’ to hold the scoundrels responsible for this “shot at and killed” garbage to task! (At least in the USA!)

¡Viva México y Puerto Peñasco!
