How About a Raffle?

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

Over the years we’ve all read PRs, comments on various blogs and in newspaper articles, etc. suggesting the annual ‘visitor’ count to Rocky Point is in the “millions” with the highest stated number that I recall reading declaring that number to be about 3.2 Million annual ‘visitors’.

Most of those comments occurred during the ‘pump-and-dump’ real estate bonanza that swept through Peñasco a couple years back but even today, recently, I’ve read more numbers that I also find hard to believe suggesting, for example, that there are 10,000 Expats living the good life here in PP.

The only thing I know for sure is there seems to be no shortage of interest and a desire by many to increase the tourist (visitor) flow to PP. As such, unlike the ‘Lotto’ scheme I suggested last year, maybe a raffle would be a way to promote our seaside community.

First, after the establishment of a lawful ‘entity’, they could come up with some sort of gigante prize, maybe a very inexpensive piece of raw-land outside the city somewhere…

To raise money for this endeavor and get the prize, etc. local merchants wanting to participate could be charged a small weekly advertising fee that allows them to hang a poster at their establishment announcing the availability of the tickets. Which of course would increase their ‘foot-traffic’ (and revenue)…

Then the ‘entity’ could also advertise the raffle online in select markets throughout Norteamérica (or is that América del Norte) informing all would-be Mexico bound travelers that they have an opportunity to own a piece of Paraíso for the mere cost of one (or more) raffle ticket (a couple bucks/pesos per ticket)….

Of course, keep in mind that it’s been thoughts such as this that have excluded me from many opportunities in the ‘corporate’ world. But then again, legal issues aside, raffles do work, are very popular and this approach to promoting Peñasco just may be the ‘ticket’!

¡Viva México y Puerto Peñasco!
