Euros in Puerto Peñasco?

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

There has been a (mostly) behind the scenes debate over the past few years by some ‘experts’ claiming enemies of the United States are conspiring to get other nations to dump the dollar as the primary oil trade currency and if they are successful this will spell disaster for the U.S. economy.

Among this group are those who also assert that the real reason for the decision to overthrow Iraq (‘War on Terror’) was not because Saddam Hussein was “a threat to the world” but because he was doing his best to price its oil in euros rather than dollars.

And now these ‘insiders’ are spreading allegations that Iran's threat to also move away from the dollar is the real reason the U.S. government, under the last administration, started sounding the alarm over the country's nuclear program.

All these matters are way above my pay-grade but there are a couple issues regarding the U.S. economy that greatly concern me. And though I won’t elaborate on what I’m seeing inside my crystal ball I will go on the record and suggest that if the U.S. economy, for any reason, worsens over the next couple of years that could spell utter devastation for Puerto Peñasco.

Yes, I am suggesting the sky may be falling because the world economy is controlled by a small group of money hungry and very greedy powerful individuals and we only need to look back over recent history to see how these individuals have caused World Wars, etc. in pursuit of power, control and money…

So call me ‘Chicken-Little’ if you like but things are changing at a much faster pace than we are here in Peñasco, and as we sit around having a couple cold-ones and fish tacos at our favorite watering hole this might also be a time to at least keep in mind that there are forces and events that may make the U.S. dollar trade at a rate like the Peso did in the 80’s. And that could turn Peñasco into a ghost town.

¡Viva México y Puerto Peñasco!
