The Messengers of Puerto Penasco

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

Add up all those empty condos, hotel and motel rooms, the restaurants, shops and other businesses including government coffers that depend, in part, on turísta pesos and then toss in a dash of the ‘woe is me’ mentality and what you have is the business community and government officials of PP reacting to the current economic conditions like a ‘Grupo’ of ostriches with their heads buried in the sand.

What they (mostly) don’t get is that when they ‘think’ times are good, they don’t promote (advertise) Peñasco abroad, believing all is well and any such expenditure is surely nonsense and a waste of money. Then when they ‘think’ times are bad they proclaim to be on the verge of bankruptcy and again they believe that advertising expenditures is money down the drain.

To prove my point google “Puerto Peñasco” and then come back to Rocky Point Tides and tell us all how quickly you found ANY reason why someone who has never been here would want to come for a visit. Or for that matter, tell us what you found that would entice a return visit by others.

What you will discover, from an advertising perspective (as in the activity of attracting public attention to a destination, products, services, etc.) is and has been a pathetic use of the most revolutionary, popular, cost effective and affordable ‘medium’ that has ever come down the chute, and the business community and government officials of RP have and continue to treat this medium as if it were the bubonic plague.

What galls me is that these ‘decision’ makers use computers every day of their lives yet it doesn’t dawn on them that all across just the S.W. USA and Mexico there are tens of thousands of prosperous ‘travelers’ online every day of the year looking for a new adventure and vacation/travel experience. And you can bet your last Peso those fun/sun seekers won't be coming to Puerto Peñasco to spend, on average, about $300 for every day they are in town!

¡Viva México y Puerto Peñasco!
