Are the Chinese coming to Peñasco?

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

I recently read on several Peñasco websites (originally published at Rocky Point News.net) that a Dr. Carl Menkay Ching, representing the 'World Association of Chinese investors' (apparently 6 million strong), was offered a plethora of reasons by Mayor Alejandro Zepeda as to why Puerto Peñasco is “the best destination for (their) investment” (although I found no such reasons published).

It seems this was a meeting with State and Municipal authorities of Baja, California that also included Peñasco Director of International Relations, Fausto Soto; Economic Development, Victor Mazon; and the president of the OCV (Office of Conventions and Visitors), Hector Vasquez del Mercado (also General Director of Las Palomas).

As mentioned, I don’t know what reasons the Peñasco delegation offered up or suggested to Dr. Menkay and being that Peñasco is, last time I checked, in Sonora and not part of ‘The Baja’ I don’t even know why our ‘team’ was on hand.

Nonetheless I applaud all their efforts and hope they stay out there thumping the benefits of Peñasco to business leaders anywhere and everywhere they can so we can get some new ‘blood’, fresh ideas and more Pesos pouring into the community.

And who knows but with efforts like the aforementioned maybe some day that International airport Daniel Chavez (et al) so kindly provided us may also bring tons of high-rolling vacationers and retirees from around Mexico and the world, which would please me, and others, greatly!

A Gypsy can always dream!

¡Viva Puerto Peñasco y México!
