Beach Buzz: The Malecon, Spring Break, New Store and more

To start off, city improvements to the Malecon in Old Port continue apace, a major facelift that will make the area prettier and easier to move around. The main street has been torn up for some time but they're working feverishly to complete that work in time for Semana Santa around mid-March and I think you'll be pleased by the improvements you'll find. Once they're finished with the Malecon they'll start work on the rest of Old Port.

UPDATE: The store is open and already a major hit in the community!
Also in the news this week: The new Wal-Mart subsidiary Bodega Aurrera is almost completed and should open soon. Located on Benito Juarez across the street from Santa Fe Market as you come into town, this is a big box store that is eagerly anticipated by just about everyone. Bodega Aurrera already has stores in San Luis Rio Colorado and Caborca, so this one in Penasco will keep some more of the local pesos in town and provide more shopping options for everyone as well. The Grand Opening is supposedly set for some time in April, but at the rate they're going everyone is hoping for a soft opening this month-- the sooner the better!

March being Carnaval and Spring Break time, local vendors are hoping for a good turn out this year. Carnaval dates are March 4-8, and the celebration will feature some less well-known Mardi Gras traditions, including the execution of the “Bad Humor” man and the crowning of the Jester King, both traditions from Veracruz, Mexico. But Americans will recognize the crowning of the Mardi Gras Queen, three days of parades, several concerts and a street festival with rides, shows and dances.

There will be a Jazz parade Tuesday, the 8th. Don't miss out on the fun!!!

And as far as Spring Break goes, well you know what to expect while that crowd is in town whooping it up. Even Manny's Beach Club is reopening for the month, which has lightened the mood all over town. When can you expect the little darlings to be in town? Here's a schedule:
  • UofA (University of Arizona) March 12th - 20th
  • ASU (Arizona State Univ.) March 13th - 20th
  • University of New Mexico March 13th - 20th
  • NAU (Northern Arizona State) March 14th - 18th
  • New Mexico State March 21st - 25th
Bring lots of beads.

And last but not least, Jim Rinquist (of Camel Toe Cantina renown) has taken over the reins at the Sonoran Resorts as Director of Sales and Marketing. Jim has been a sales representative for the Sonorans since July 2010. He worked with Century 21 in Puerto Penasco for 2 years prior to joining the Sonoran's team. Jim holds his broker's license in both Arizona and Sonora, MX. and has been active in Real Estate for over 20 years.

This is a good time to buy real estate in Rocky Point, and the Sonoran Sky currently has several remaining brand new units for sale, with six fully furnished models for sale, as well as resale units. These condos have new, larger and upgraded floor plans with granite countertops, top of the line cabinets, and stainless steel throughout. Give them a look-see at http://www.sonoranresorts.mx/

And that's the Buzz on the Beach for today.

Peace out...
