Are Criminals Promoting Real Estate in Peñasco?

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

They may be and that is why this week I’m asking that all citizens and businesses in Puerto Peñasco that are advertising anything to stop using a particular U.S.-based company offering an online posting service that has, IMO, become a cesspool for depraved deviates, perverts, con artists and scammers, thieves and now even cold blooded murderers.

And what company is this you ask? It is Craig’s List (CL). And what could have been, IMO, one of the best ever online services for both businesses and individuals has become a breeding ground for virtually every crime imaginable.

If you don’t believe me then check out just this last week's partial headlines from the main-stream media throughout the USA: "...Thief assaults, robs Denver man"; "...Used in Deadly Ploy to Lure Victims in Ohio"; "....Buyer shows up with Machete"; "...Ad leads to armed robber"; "...Used car scams"; "Madison teen arrested..."; "...Car thief used..."; "...Responded to ad, Find man dead"; "...Scams Cheats Apt. hunters of thousands"; "...Three people robbed in bogus..."; "American Grill doll theft..."; "..Suspect was wanted as Texas parolee"; "...Lengthy criminal record for theft..."Sales man charged..."; "Statewide advertising sweep starts 87 investigations"; "...Used to setup Va. Beach robbery" and, if that wasn't enough, the big one: "Murder suspects to be tried...".

Criminals over the past several years have flocked to this (and other) online listing service by untold thousands and depending on the region (world-wide) they can post just about anything they want free of charge or pay a modest daily fee and in the form of an advertisement ‘hook’ their victims.

A few years ago things started becoming so bad and CL had so many complaints they ultimately posted warnings on how to “avoid scams & fraud” but other than that whether CL visitors are buying antiques, video gaming products or seeking travel services, vacation rentals, jobs, cars, cruises, tools, collectibles, investments etc. many are being victimized by criminals of all sorts.

So show your Christmas, Holiday Season and ‘goodwill to all’ spirit this year demonstrating that you care for the safety and well-being of people and stop using Craig.s List advertising services (and that includes you folks in Arizona renting out your Peñasco Casas, etc.) until such time as the company changes its ways.

A Gypsy can always dream!

¡Viva Puerto Peñasco y México!
