Wasting Away Again in Peñascoville?

-by El Gitano Peñasco, "The Peñasco Gypsy"

An amiga of mine copied and pasted a post from a Peñasco chat room and e-mailed that to me wherein someone claimed that they have made 30 trips to Rocky Point over the years and in all that time, until this very last trip, they had never ventured towards the Black Mountain region, including the neighboring areas of Laguna Del Mar and the Laguna Shores.

The game changer, this time, was a super discounted vacation promotion to stay at Laguna Shores in a 1-bedroom fully furnished Condo at a price of $69 for two nights, three days for two adults and may have included a bottle of wine and a dinner tossed in as well.

The promotion and its purpose aside for today, I found myself thinking how odd it is for anyone to come to Puerto Peñasco (or go anywhere for that matter) that many times without exploring the entire community over all those years.

Those thoughts led me to wonder how many more people travel here who also claim, as this couple did in their post, that they “love Puerto Peñasco” but who apparently have a routine when coming here of going to spot ‘A’, ‘B’ and maybe ‘C’ on their itineraries and never venture beyond their comfy zones?

By contrast, the very first day I arrived in PP oh so many years ago, after we checking into the hotel that A.M. we “hit it” for the rest of the day and explored just about every nook and cranny we could squeeze into, which included shopping, dining, sight-seeing, activities and some cold ones, too!

So on this Memorial holiday weekend I urge and/or encourage all you ‘Visitors’ from the ‘old country’ up North to get out and explore some more, regardless of how many times you’ve been here.

Try something new; spend some pesos in difference places (businesses), go to new (to you) restaurants and bars and shop somewhere else and make some new friends.

And while you’re enjoying the fruits of all your hard work, don’t forget to remember all those others who also made this weekend possible--- those whom this holiday was designed to honor!

Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Weekend!
